Setting up a ClearView Flexbox in AWS

A step-by-step guide on setting up a Flexbox in AWS

Updated over 6 months ago

Basic Requirements

To get started with ClearView Flex on AWS, you'll need:

  • An AWS Account: If you don't have one, you'll need to create an AWS account.

  • Basic EC2 Knowledge: Understanding concepts like virtual machines (AMIs), instances, and security groups will be helpful.

  • Access Granted by Us: We'll provide you with an AMI image (a template for launching your virtual Flexbox) and an activation key.

Key Terms

  • AMI (Amazon Machine Image): A template used to create a virtual machine on AWS.

  • EC2 (Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud): An AWS service that provides on-demand virtual computers for your applications.

Recommendation: We suggest using a C6a.2xlarge instance type for optimal performance with your virtual Flexbox.

Testing Setup

We will set up a virtual license on your ClearView Flex project and grant your AWS account access to an AMI image.

You can find the AMI in the AWS console, by searching for an "AMI name" containing the word ClearView Flex. Once you have created an EC2 instance from the AMI, you can log on at the virtual machine console with the provided credentials and use an activation key to register the virtual appliance with the ClearView Flex platform.

Provisioning your Virtual Flexbox Appliance in AWS

Once the EC2 instance has been successfully launched, connect to the instance serial console (see Connect to the EC2 Serial Console) and log in with the credentials obtained in the previous step:

Run the registration command, providing the activation key. This command will register the appliance with the ClearView Flex platform and complete the process of setting up the virtual machine:

Once this process is completed, you can exit and disconnect from the serial console:

You can now add your virtual Flexbox to a group (see Managing Flexboxes in a Group), configure the NDI settings (see Flexbox Network Settings). Once you've done this, it will be ready to use.

Removing a Flexbox from a Virtual license

If you want to free up a license for use with another virtual machine, you will need to remove the Flexbox from the license. To do so, find the desired license in your Virtual license list on the Virtual licenses tab of the Flexbox page of the ClearView Flex Admin panel.

Select the ‘X” button in the table. You’ll be asked to confirm that you wish to remove the Flexbox from the license. This will prevent any existing virtual machine activated using this license from functioning.
