We use the term 'Ad-hoc Recipient' to describe someone you send a package to but its not yet a registered user of FileRunner.

As they do not have log-in credentials or a FileRunner profile they will instead be sent a link to their package in the received package notification email. Clicking this link will take them to a web page with their package details and will allow them to download the package contents.

For security reasons, not all FileRunner accounts are setup to allow this type of sending. If the '+ New Ad-hoc Recipient' button is disabled when you create a package, it is likely an admin on your account has turned this feature off. This is managed by Admins under 'Contract Settings'.
